To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Helping the Gifted and Twice-Exceptional to Thrive

I specialize in counseling gifted and twice-exceptional children, parents, adolescents and adults, helping them find ways to live satisfying and joyful lives. Learning to live with giftedness can take courage and effort, and sometimes a little support and guidance along the way can help.

My Book Has Been Published!

Making the Choice: When Typical School Doesn't Fit Your Atypical Child has just been published by GHF Press. Co-Authored by Gifted Homeschoolers Forum ED Corin Barsily Goodwin, Making the Choice is a guidebook for parents of gifted and twice-exceptional children who are wondering about homeschooling as a possible option. This is the first in a series of books which deal specifically with the needs of this overlooked, underserved group of kids. I'm honored to have been able to be a part of this project, and I look forward to the rest of the series. You can order yours today from Amazon.  A portion of the proceeds goes to  GHF in its mission to provide support, information and advocacy for those interested in the intersection of the worlds of gifted and homeschooling.

Upcoming Events

I am looking forward to presenting in the following places in the weeks and months to come. Please feel free to come and participate -- these events are open to the public.

May 3-6, 2012: CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) 48th Annual Conference, San Diego

I will be presenting a Continuing Education workshop for mental health professionals on developing a gifted specialty in private practice.

September 29, 4:00 pm (PDT): Homefires' Homeschool Teleconference

I will be one of the featured guests on Diane Flynn Keith's awesome teleconference, together with Corin Barsily Goodwin, the Executive Director of Gifted Homeschoolers Forum, and my co-author. We will be discussing our new book, and how to manage the educational decisions that arise in parenting a gifted or twice-exceptional child.

Office Hours on the Peninsula Now Available

In response to client requests, I have opened an office in San Mateo, conveniently located just off Highway 92, midway between Highways 101 and 280. Afternoon and some evening appointment times on Thursdays are available. This is in addition to the ongoing Sunday appointment times in San Jose.  I look forward to being able to serve folks who live on the coast, in San Francisco and in the East Bay from my new office.
